Solar energy storage into water.
The primary role of an EKOPROFIL controller is to maximize self-consumption. It acts as the "brain" of the system, ensuring that the free electricity generated by your PV panels is used on-site rather than being exported to the grid.
1. Real-Time Energy Balancing
The controller continuously monitors the electrical installation, measuring two key variables:
- PV Generation: Current power output from the solar panels.
- Home Load: Current energy consumption by household appliances.
2. Surplus Detection
When solar production exceeds the building's demand, a surplus occurs. Instead of exporting this energy to the utility grid (where it is often less financially efficient), the controller redirects it to local "energy storage"—most commonly in the form of heat.
3. Dynamic Power Modulation (Proportional Control)
Advanced controllers do not simply switch devices on or off. They use stepless power modulation (often via PWM or SSR):
- If you have a surplus of 1.2 kW, the controller won't trigger a full 3 kW heater (which would force you to buy the remaining 1.8 kW from the grid).
- Instead, it throttles the heater's output to exactly 1.2 kW, utilizing only the "free" energy available at that moment.
4. Load Prioritization
You can define which devices should receive excess power first. A typical hierarchy looks like this:
- Priority 1: Domestic Hot Water (DHW) immersion heater.
- Priority 2: Thermal buffer tank for central heating support.
- Priority 3: Air conditioning or EV charging station.
Key Benefits briefly: Feature Benefit to User Increased Self-Consumption
Significantly lower electricity bills by reducing grid dependency.
Grid Stabilization Helps prevent overvoltage issues that can cause PV inverters to trip/shut down.
Thermal Storage Converts surplus electricity into "cheap" thermal energy stored in water.
Summary: EKOPROFIL controller ensures that every kilowatt-hour generated by your roof stays within your home, typically by converting it into hot water for later use.
